ARTICLE IV: SCHOOL AREAS
SECTION A: School Areas
- The areas of the School of Music shall be
- Keyboard
- Vocal
- Strings
- Woodwinds
- Brass and Percussion
- Music History and Literature
- Music Theory and Composition
- Music Education
- Conducting and Performance Ensembles
SECTION B: Area Coordinators
- Area coordinators shall hold office by appointment by the Director.
- The duties and responsibilities of the area coordinator shall be
- To exert leadership in the development of the area
- To evaluate teachers in the area and submit an annual written evaluation of their respective faculty to the Director
- To preside over area meetings and maintain area records
- To coordinate registration and enrollment in consultation with other area faculty
- To submit unified schedules of course offerings to the Director as requested in consultation with all other area teachers
- To maintain inventory records for the area with direct responsibility to the Director
- To prepare and administer entrance and comprehensive examinations for the area (music education, music history, and music theory) or all jury and performance examinations (applied areas)
- To coordinate the advisement of students in the area
- To coordinate area recitals
- To assign, supervise, and evaluate graduate teaching assistants (or delegate that responsibility), especially in the areas of teaching effectiveness, appropriateness of repertoire, course content, grading policies and practices, etc.
- To monitor recruiting efforts by area faculty, giving advice when appropriate to enhance the recruiting effectiveness of individual area faculty, and to work cooperatively with others in the School in recruiting students
