ARTICLE VIII:  STANDING RULES

Standing Rule 7. Annual Review of Associate Professors by the Full Professors Committee

1. Preparation for the Meeting
1.1 At the time that each Associate Professor submits a copy of the Faculty Accomplishment Report to the Director, he/she will also submit a brief written summary of activities in teaching, research, and service for the year just completed.   A one-page form will be provided.
1.2 The Director will distribute all summaries or vitas to all of the Professors at least two weeks prior to the scheduled meeting.   The Director is responsible for setting the meeting date during the winter semester.
2. Assignment of Sub-committees
2.1 A sub-committee of Professors will review each Associate Professor's written summary or vita.   The sub-committee will consist of two members selected by the Director, considering the Associate Professor's teaching area and an equitable distribution of responsibilities among the Professors in the School.   One member of the sub-committee will be retained year to year for each Associate Professor (except when a faculty leave prevents this) and one member will rotate from among the remaining Professors.   Professors on leave during the semester will not be required to participate.
2.2 Members of the sub-committee for each Associate Professor will review the written summaries or vitas and prepare a recommendation to be made to all of the Professors.
3. Meeting Procedures
3.1 The sub-committee recommendations will be presented and discussed, followed by a vote and discussion on the nature of the written report.
3.2 The results of this review process cannot be interpreted as a guarantee that promotion will be awarded either at the school or the college level.   The information in the Professors' report is to be regarded as advisory only; formal consideration for promotion begins with the School of Music Personnel Committee.
3.3 A written report of the Professors' review will be delivered to the Director of the School, who will place a copy in the faculty member's file and will give a copy to the faculty member.   (The Director's evaluation and report will be separate from this process.)
3.4 The faculty member may write a response, which will then be placed in his/her file and sent to all members of the committee and to the Dean.
3.5 Upon the request of an individual Associate Professor, the committee will review the Associate Professor's complete curriculum vita and provide more comprehensive feedback on his/her progress toward the rank of Professor.   This may be requested no more than once every three years.
