The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Education (music education) is offered through the College of Education. It is a professional degree with the objective of providing the skills, education, and certification to become a teacher. It will generally require a minimum of 130 credit hours to complete, although the total could be higher depending on the type and number of teaching specialties chosen, along with the normal variation in students' preparedness.

In every case, completion of the specified courses in any degree plan that follows will result in certification by the state of Missouri to teach the courses or programs indicated. Both degree programs are fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
General Education
The College of Education (COE) general education requirements are comprised of the MU General Education Requirements and additional requirements of the COE.

Subject/Concentration (57 Instrumental, 55 Vocal)
All undergraduate music education majors must enroll in Music 91, Recital Attendance each semester until they have completed seven semesters with satisfactory grades. In meeting this requirement, a student is required to attend 14 concerts per semester, and may count no more than 3 recitals in which he or she has been a performer. Failure to achieve a satisfactory grade (under the S/U system) will result in delay of graduation.
