Professional Graduate Degrees in Music
Upon approval for admission to the MU Graduate School, new students pursuing the Master of Education Degree with a major in Music Education take an initial advisory examination encompassing four areas: written tests in music education, music history, music theory, and a performance hearing in the major applied area. The results of the advisory examination are used to aid in the development of an appropriate graduate program commensurate with individual needs and interests.
The Master of Education degree program in Music Education must encompass a minimum of thirty-two approved graduate hours, sixteen of which must be in education or music education, and sixteen hours must be in courses numbered 7000 or above (e.g., C&I T8825, a Music Education course, counts toward the 16 hours required in education and music education; Music 8673, a course in the School of Music, counts toward the 16 hours required in graduate level courses; C&I T8845 counts toward both requirements).
