Community Music Program

CMP Calendar

The Community Music Program (CMP)is an outreach effort sponsored by the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Music to aspiring musicians in central Missouri. CMP offers opportunities for those who seek musical instruction purely for personal enrichment.

Our goal is to serve as a primary resource for high quality instruction and performance opportunities for students of all ages and stages of musical development. Music lessons offered through CMP are ideal for those individuals seeking individualized attention, musical challenges and enrichment beyond the usual large ensemble experience. Motivation and interest are the only entrance requirements.

TUITION
Tuition is based upon the educational qualification of the instructor, length of lesson, and term of instruction. All fees are charged on a semester basis and payable before the start of lessons. Pro-rated tuition is available to those registering late. A $20.00 non-refundable fee is included for administrative, facility, and accompanist costs.

REGISTRATION
Students seeking instruction should contact the CMP Coordinator, who will handle applications, fees, and pupil placement. The placement of students with an instructor is subject to instructor availability. In the event a teacher is not available, a waiting list will be maintained.

CMP lessons and coaching will begin the week of August 27, 2007 for the Fall Term, the week of January 22, 2008 for the Winter Term and June 9, 2008 for the summer. Registration after classes begin is available at a reduced rate.

INSTRUCTION
CMP private lessons are taught on a weekly basis in School of Music buildings. Instruction will be provided by upper division and graduate music majors who study at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Instructors are recommended by the applied faculty and are appointed to teach in the Community Music Program.

Scheduling of lessons is arranged directly between the instructor and pupil. Instructors will contact students by phone to schedule the lesson time. CMP does not provide instructional materials, music or instruments. CMP students should seek the advice of their instructor before purchasing any materials or music.

Piano Safari
Piano Program for Beginners

The Piano Safari program provides children, ages 6-9 years, with basic knowledge of piano skills and musical concepts. Private Lessons allow one-on-one instruction to develop each student's individual piano skills. Group Classes focus on musicianship development through games and fun activities relating to music theory, music history, listening, and performance. Students also have the benefit of socialization with other children who are studying piano. A lesson/class combination is the ideal way for children to begin piano lessons, because it provides the best foundation for performance and musicianship skill development.
