The 2010 Mizzou Double Reed Day features master classes, MU faculty/student recital, reed making workshops, and a Grand Finale Double Reed Band performance including all participants. MU professors Dan Willett (oboe) and Rodney Ackmann (bassoon) will host this event that is specifically directed to middle school and high school oboists and bassoonists of all ability levels. The Double Reed Day offers an ideal opportunity to further develop solo repertoire for upcoming district and state solo festivals and grow in many other areas of double reed playing s.

The Mizzou Double Reed Day events are open to all students, band directors and parents.

Cost:
$15.00 per student participant
Free for band directors and/or parents

Where:
201 Loeb Hall, between McReynolds and McDavid Halls, near the corner of 5th and Elm. Free parking is available just west of Loeb Hall in Lot RC9. Click here for a map and directions.

Schedule of Events:

9-10 AM Registration/Welcome
10-10:45 AM MU Double Reed Faculty/Student Recital
10:45 AM-
12:30 PM
Master Classes (separate for oboe and bassoon).
Those participating at the district solo festival should plan to perform their pieces.
12:30-1:15 PM Lunch: Provided
1:15-2:30 PM Afternoon Session: Pedagogy/Basics (Optional Video: Bassoon Making by Fox)
2:30-3:30 PM Rehearsal for Grand Finale Double Reed Day Band! & Performance
Special “mystery conductors”
3:30-5:00 PM Optional Workshops: Oboe/Bassoon Reed Making
(band directors are welcome to participate!)

Those who do not own reedmaking equipment and wish to purchase, please contact Mr. Willett or Mr. Ackmann for suggestions or assistance.
