Erin Wehr-Flowers received her doctoral degree in music education from The University of Iowa where she taught courses in conducting and music education. She received a bachelor's degree in trumpet performance with a minor in jazz studies from The University of Northern Iowa and a master's degree in music education from The University of North Texas.

Dr. Flowers directed elementary and secondary instrumental music programs in Iowa and Illinois. She has experience teaching general music, holds Orff certification, and has served as a clinician and adjudicator for elementary and secondary music programs as well as drum and bugle corps.

Dr. Flowers also works with adult bands, and was the assistant director for the Iowa City New Horizons Band program (a band program for senior citizens) and the director of the Linn Street Band (a beginning/intermediate band program for adults learning or relearning an instrument). These varied teaching settings drive her research in adult and multi-generational music learning, jazz studies, and gender issues in music education. She has presented research at state, regional, and national conferences, and is published in The Journal of Research in Music Education. She currently serves as research chair for the Iowa Music Educators Association.
