Denise Elshoff, music theory, received her M.A., M. Phil., and Ph.D. degrees in music theory from Yale University and a B.M. degree in violin performance and music theory from The Ohio State University. Before joining the MU faculty, she taught briefly at her alma mater. She has given research presentations from her dissertation, which is entitled "Melody, Counterpoint, and Tonality in Shostakovich's String Quartets Nos. 1–8," at meetings of Music Theory Midwest, Music Theory Southeast, Boston Area Graduate Symposium, and the New England Conference of Music Theorists. Her research interests include the theory and analysis of Russian music, especially works by Shostakovich, Stravinsky, and Gubaidulina, as well as the theoretical issues posed by tonal music of the twentieth century. |
