Graduate Program Admissions

Please note the following procedures for applying to our graduate program:

  • Apply online directly to the Graduate School.
  • Submit an essay explaining person goals. Essays can be submitted to Prof. Dan Willett or with your online application under supplemental application materials.
  • For all programs except Music Education, submit the following directly to Dan Willett, Associate Director, School of Music (address below):
    • Three letters of Recommendation
    • For applicants planning to major in an applied area (brass, percussion, piano, strings, voice, woodwinds), a recording of a recent performance, with repertoire representing three of the following periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Contemporary. A visit to the School of Music and in-person audition are strongly encouraged, either on one of the Graduate Audition Days or another scheduled time. Applicants who audition initially by recording may be required to audition on campus at a later time.     • For applicants in composition, representative original works.
    • For applicants in theory or history, examples of written scholarly work
