Graduate Program Admissions

Please note the following procedures for applying to our graduate program:

Deadline: The School of Music offers rolling admissions for graduate students. Faculty members start reviewing graduate assistantship applications on December 15, 2009. It would be in the student's best interest to have their application and supporting materials submitted two weeks prior to their scheduled audition date
The School of Music does not require GRE scores.
Apply online directly to the Graduate School.
Submit an essay explaining person goals. Essays can be submitted to Prof. Dan Willett or with your online application under supplemental application materials.
For all programs except Music Education, submit the following directly to Dan Willett, Associate Director, School of Music (address below):
- Three letters of Recommendation
- A visit to the School of Music and in-person audition are strongly encouraged for applicants planning to major in an applied area (brass, guitar, percussion, piano, strings, voice, woodwinds), either on one of the Graduate Audition Days or another arranged time. Live auditions are required for all conducting applicants. If you are an international student or a resident who has extenuating circumstances and cannot audition in-person, notify Prof. Dan Willett and submit a recording of a recent performance, with repertoire representing three of the following periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or Contemporary. Applicants who audition initially by recording may be required to audition on campus at a later time. - For applicants in composition, representative original works.
- For applicants in theory or history, examples of written scholarly work
- Conducting majors should arrange an interview with the appropriate director:
  - Dr. Tom O'Neal, Director of Bands
  - Dr. R. Paul Crabb, Director of Choral Activities
  - Professor Ed Dolbashian, Director of Orchestra
