Home | Jobs/Vacancies Jobs/VacanciesNotice of Faculty Vacancy CHORAL MUSIC/MUSIC EDUCATION Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate courses for music education majors including secondary school music methods with related field experience, conduct a university choral ensemble, and teach undergraduate choral conducting and basic music skills or music methods for classroom teachers. Participate in the leadership of the choral program including supervision of graduate students. Teach graduate music education courses such as Foundations of Music Education or Psychology of Music, commensurate with interests and experiences. Supervise master's and doctoral student research, assist with freshman music education seminar and undergraduate advising. Publish music education research and pursue creative/scholarly activities related to choral conducting and/or pedagogy. Provide service to the departments and the profession. Qualifications: Doctorate completed by August 2010. Graduate degree or commensurate experience in music education. Successful secondary school choral conducting experience. Ability to publish music education research and maintain professional activity related to choral music, such as workshops and clinics, honors choirs, community or youth music activities, adjudication. Successful college/university choral conducting and music education teaching experiences desired. Salary and Benefits:Assistant Professor, tenure-track. Joint appointment in the School of Music and Department of Learning, Teaching and Curriculum. Competitive salary and benefits. Appointment begins August 15, 2010. Music at MU:The School of Music comprises 35 full-time faculty members and 220 music students, offers a full range of bachelor's and master's degrees in music, and includes a comprehensive choral music program. Music education degrees, bachelor's through doctorate, are conferred through the Department of Learning, Teaching and Curriculum, with 29 faculty members and over 100 doctoral students, in the College of Education. MU is the oldest state university west of the Mississippi River and the largest of the four institutions in the University of Missouri System. It is a Doctoral/Research Extensive institution, AAU member, and has a student body of over 30,000 students. The campus is located in a community of 100,000 in mid-Missouri, a center of cultural, academic, and research activity.
