This appointment is for the 2012-2013 academic year and is renewable for the 2013-14 academic year. A tenure-track search for an assistant professor of bassoon is anticipated in 2013-14 (for a fall 2014 appointment). The successful candidate will inherit and teach a robust bassoon studio (12-14 students anticipated in 2012-13), direct the bassoon ensemble (which has performed recently for the Missouri Music Educators Association convention and at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic), coach chamber ensembles as needed and desired, teach bassoon techniques to music education majors (half-semester course annually), and rehearse and perform with the Missouri Quintet (the faculty woodwind quintet, which maintains an active local and regional performance schedule). Other duties include establishing and maintaining networks with other musicians in the region, and recruiting undergraduate and graduate bassoon students to the University. Teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate and graduate courses in theory, composition (possibly including digital synthesis), arranging, and music technology. Half of the load will be devoted to administrative work, with the successful candidate serving as the Managing Director of the Mizzou New Music Initiative, a donor-funded program that includes wide-ranging composition and new music performance programs. The Managing Director’s duties include providing broad oversight for all operational, financial, communications, and technical aspects of the Initiative programs.
