Piano Audition Requirements

Graduate Applicants

 

Master of Music in Piano Peformance

and

Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy

 

Prerequisite: Completed undergraduate piano degree (BA, BS, BM) including a senior recital.

 

Audition Repertoire (four pieces minimum):

 

(1) one complete Classical sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Clementi, or Beethoven (a full concerto by Mozart or Beethoven may also fill this requirement)

 

AND

 

Selections from at least two of these three additional categories:

 

(2) Bach Prelude and Fugue, or other major Baroque work;

 

(3) one large work from the Romantic period;

 

(4) a significant piece or set of pieces from the 20th century.

 

All pieces must be memorized.

 

 

Master of Music in Accompanying:

 

Prerequisite: Completed undergraduate piano degree (BA, BS, BM) including a senior recital.

 

Audition Repertoire (four pieces minimum):

 

(1-2) At least two memorized selections from the four categories detailed above AND

 

(3-4) Two selections of contrasting accompanying literature; these may be either instrumental or vocal, or both, but should demonstrate a range of ensemble abilities. You may bring your own collaborator, or we will try to find one for you here (appropriate notice needed).
