We traveled to Dresden today. The city was heavily bombed by the Allied forces during World War II. Nearly all of the historic city center was destroyed during the bombing but most of it has been restored to prewar conditions. The city’s story and revitalization made for a fascinating visit. Some of our group attended a noon organ concert at the Dresden Frauenkirche, a Lutheran church. The church raised funds from all over the world and was rebuilt with much of the original materials including 40% of the original exterior stones. Although we had our first real threat of rain, the weather ended up being very pleasant and perfect for exploring. Tomorrow we do a walking tour of Prague and will have a dinner cruise along the river!
