Graduate Certificate in Jazz Studies
This one-year program is designed to deepen the student’s preparation for a career in jazz performance or further study in jazz. The certificate is available to degree seeking and non-degree seeking students alike, non-music as well as music majors.
Prerequisites
- Bachelors degree in music (or demonstrated equivalent)
- GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours
If an applicant does not meet the required prerequisites, then appropriate course(s) may be added to the degree requirements.

Additional Requirements
Certificate applicants must demonstrate basic jazz keyboard proficiency to the Director of Jazz Studies. If insufficient, Music 1620, Jazz Piano Class, will be added as a required, remedial course (not for graduate credit).
