For 65 years, Mizzou has opened its doors to the State Music Festival, coordinated by the Missouri State High School Activities Association. The festival brings 10,000 potential Tigers to campus as well as family members and music teachers throughout the state of Missouri. The atmosphere is one of excitement, anticipation, high energy, and of course beautiful music.
Beginning with the 2018 festival, MSHSAA decided to put the event out for an RFP (request for proposal) bid for the next five years. They packaged the festival as an entire event instead of just finding a venue. Currently, there are two finalists for the festival - MU and MSU in Springfield. The Board will decide in June which city will be selected for the location of the festival for the next five years. Several members of the MU community worked with the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau on the joint RFP which was due in March. The festival not only attracts many potential students to MU but also brings approximately $1.25 million of revenue to the Columbia community over the three-day event.
Each year, over 200 MU college students and community members volunteer to welcome our guests and help them have the best possible experience at the festival. There is still room for a few more volunteers on Saturday, April 29, 2017. We need everyone’s help to put our best foot forward and show everyone that Mizzou is the best place to hold the yearly festival.
