Jazz Certificate-Minor in Jazz Studies

The School of Music offers MU undergraduate students the opportunity to pursue the following credentials in jazz, America’s original musical art form:

  • Jazz Studies Certificate (for BA and BM music and music education majors)
  • Minor in Jazz Studies (for students majoring in any other field)

The Certificate and Minor are not intended for beginners; rather, they are for students with basic musical knowledge. Hence, some of the required courses have pre-requisites, and auditions are required both for ensembles and for admission to the programs.

To officially declare your minor (or, certificate) in jazz studies, fill out the declaration form. Once you have received confirmation of your minor declaration, you can access your progress towards your minor or certificate by running a degree audit. If you have questions about the minor after you view your degree audit, contact the advisor for the minor (Kay Gregory). More information about declaring a minor is available here.
