Choral Music at the MU School of Music offers a proud tradition of excellence in choral singing. Mizzou offers several choirs and membership is open to all university students.
University Singers is the most selective choral ensemble of the MU School of Music. They have captured the attention of audiences nationally and internationally through performances at the National Collegiate Choral Organization, the American Choral Directors Association, the White House, China, and across Europe. Concert Chorale is a combined mixed ensemble comprised of our University Glee Club (Tenor/Bass) and University Treble Choir. These ensembles are designed to provide intensified study and performance experience of superior, challenging and varied repertoire.
Membership in these ensembles consists of both music majors and majors in other disciplines. Choral Union is a 150-voice unauditioned chorus that presents one major choral/orchestral work each semester. The ensemble includes students, University faculty and staff, and community members from Columbia and the region. Repertoire includes everything from Bach’s Mass in B Minor to Wynton Marsalis’ Abyssinian Mass. Hitt Street Harmony is a twelve-voice, selective ensemble that performs frequently on campus and in the community. The literature is chosen from jazz standards, a cappella, Broadway tunes, and musical theater.
