New/Returning Student Information

This page will be updated with information for new and returning students as it becomes available. Check back for updates.

We are beginning to send out communication regarding plans for the Fall semester.  Please make sure to continue to check your MU email this summer so you can be well informed and prepared.  This first one is about Orientation and Auditions – both of which happen before classes start.

NEW MUSIC MAJOR ORIENTATION
All new music and music education majors are required to attend an interactive orientation on Sunday, August 21, from 12:30-2:00 pm in room 130 of the Sinquefield Music Center.  Lunch will be provided.  This is a time to get to know your peers with fun and informative activities.  We will discuss the first week of class to help get you off to a great start.  This meeting should also be helpful if you are still unsure about being a music major. Please RSVP here.

ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS
Ensemble audition information, sign-up times, and audition music (for instrumentalists except piano) can be accessed online at https://music.missouri.edu/news/fall-2022-audition-information. All music and music education majors (vocalists and instrumentalists except piano) are expected to audition and participate in one or more ensembles as assigned by the faculty.  If you have additional questions about auditions, please contact Brooke Danielsen (Danielsenb@missouri.edu).

We look forward to meeting our new music majors.  Welcome Class of 2026!

We are beginning to send out communication regarding plans for the Fall semester.  Please make sure to continue to check your MU email this summer so you can be well informed and prepared.  This first one is about Orientation and Auditions – both of which happen before classes start.  As an incoming graduate music student, you are required to attend these events prior to classes starting.

GRADUATE SCHOOL ORIENTATIONS
The Graduate School hosts two orientations – one for all graduate students (https://gradschool.missouri.edu/admissions/admitted-students/on-campus-new-graduate-student-orientation-resource-fair/) and one for those that will hold a teaching assistantship when they arrive. Registration for the Graduate Assistant Teaching Orientation may be found here:  https://gradschool.missouri.edu/professional_development/graduate-assistant-teaching-orientation-gato/. This is recommended for those students that will be teaching a class, not necessarily for those in performance roles.

ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS
Ensemble audition information, sign-up times, and audition music for instrumentalists (except piano), can be accessed online at https://music.missouri.edu/news/fall-2022-audition-information. If you have additional questions about auditions, please contact Brooke Danielsen (danielsenb@missouri.edu).

We look forward to greeting you on August 16 and welcoming you to the MU School of Music!

Music and music education majors are expected to audition for and participate in one or more ensembles and instrumentalists (brass, strings, percussion, woodwinds) will need to re-audition for ensemble placement.  Non-music major instrumental ensemble participants must re-audition as well, with the exception of University Band, which does not require an audition.

Audition information, sign-up times, and audition music for instrumentalists, can be accessed online at:

https://music.missouri.edu/news/fall-2022-audition-information.

All returning choral ensemble members should sign up for an audition including those interested in auditioning into University Singers who did not audition this past Spring. Returning members of University Singers are not required to audition in the first round but will participate in call-back auditions. All Concert Chorale (Glee Club, Treble Choir) students should sign up for an audition.  Students interested in ensembles not requiring an audition (Choral Union/Crabb, new Sankofa Chorale/Boyd, Show-Me Opera/Seitz), should let the directors know of their interest via email.  Visit music.missouri.edu/ensemble/choirs for more information.

Choral Sign-up times can be found here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0B4BAFA823A0FF2-choral8

If you have additional questions about auditions, please contact Brooke Danielsen (danielsenb@missouri.edu).

We look forward to hearing our full ensembles in rehearsal and performance this Fall!

We welcome students of all majors to audition for our ensembles. Audition information, including audition music for instrumentalists, can be accessed online at https://music.missouri.edu/news/fall-2022-audition-information. If you have additional questions about auditions, please contact Brooke Danielsen (danielsenb@missouri.edu).

If you are considering a major in music, please read on: All new and prospective music majors are expected to attend a special orientation session on Sunday, August 21, from 12:30-2:00 pm in room 383 of the Sinquefield Music Center.  This is a time when there are few other scheduled orientation activities and precedes the Concert on the Quad and Tiger Walk, which are special events for all new students, later on Sunday afternoon.  After an informal lunch, which will give you an opportunity to meet other new music students, we will step you through the most important things you need to know before classes begin. Lunch will be provided. An email will be sent by Pat Garmon asking for an RSVP for this event in addition to dietary requests.
